Cosmetic Foot Surgery

I was recently interviewed by the Chicago Tribune on cosmetic foot surgery. The reporter, Dawn Trice, spent almost an hour interviewing me and she really came to understand the effects of biomechanics, weight and walking on the feet! Many conditions that seem to be "cosmetic" such as long toes, really do have medical consequences.

Check out the article and let me know what you think!

  1. I read the Article by Dawn Trice in its entirely. Very nice article and I agree with your philosophy!
Women do have a very different reality than men, and I am glad that you are one of the few podiatrists that speaks out for women, and their feet.
On a side note, how do you feel about Minimal Incision Surgery for the correction of hammertoes, especially for women who are concerned about that scar on the dorsum of their toes? Do you make your incision in the interspace for these patients?

Thanks for the articles. They are fun to read! :)

  2. Thanks for the comments! I really appreciate it.

I have not tried the interspace incisions - I don't think its worth the added risks. I think that excessive retraction can cause its own problems and I think the kindest thing for tissue is the most direct incision, while respecting skin lines.
